CONSTRUCTION NO. 1 ENSEMBLE

Our furniture design employs “construction,” a modern-design technique invented to bring back the power of beauty that, in pre-modern times, had been demonstrated through ornamentation. The dining series, consisting of an oval dining table and six chairs, and the lounge series, consisting of a sofa and a low table, are both titled Ensemble and composed of three materials with a focus on their materiality.

The tabletop is made of quartzite, a combination of transparent minerals, with its cool, milky-white smooth surface containing a large, flowing greige pattern. The brass legs are made of L-angles and flat bars, and the sandwich structure with a 6-mm gap accentuates the metals’ slender forms. The chair’s seat, covered with Nishijin textile with an abstract design, is balanced with distinct materials such as stone and brass to create an organic whole (ensemble) composed of elements with unique qualities.
